Our story
A brief history of Pikesville.
“Pikesville has been home to history for over 200 years.” From Fort Garrison to the Armory, our story is one of community, resilience, and reinvention — and PIC is writing its next chapter.
Founded in 1815
Named for Zebulon Pike
Established by Dr. James Smith and named for the soldier-explorer. Fort Garrison, built around 1693, still stands in a Pikesville neighborhood today.
A community hub
A blend of faith & roots
Home to a rich blend of faith communities — including one of Maryland's largest Jewish populations alongside long-established Christian congregations — anchoring the area's identity for generations.
The Pikesville Armory
Built in 1903
The second-oldest armory in Maryland and on the National Register of Historic Places, now undergoing a ~$100M redevelopment into a regional hub for arts, recreation, and veterans.
